The Andes Mountains
The Andes Mountains are a mountain range in Chile and other parts of South America. They cover one third of Chile and act as a wall. The mountains have steep slopes and deep valleys. Some of the higher mountains that range from 16,500 to 19,500 feet high are extinct. The tallest mountain in the Andes is the highest active volcano in the world, and the second tallest mountain in South America, Ojos del Salado which is 23,000 feet tall. There is another volcano called the Chaiten Volcano and it erupted in 2008 for the first time in 9,000 years.
